Garlic

Strong evidence

Active compounds

Diallyl disulfideAlliinAllicinS-allylcysteine

Targeted cancers

colonbreastprostatelungstomach

Anti-cancer actions

  • Top-ranked food against almost all cancers tested (Béliveau studies)
  • Inhibits cancer cell proliferation in colon, breast, prostate, lung and stomach
  • Allicin forms when garlic is crushed or chopped — wait 10 minutes before cooking
  • Stimulates innate immunity and NK (natural killer) cells
  • Powerful antibacterial properties against H. pylori (linked to stomach cancer)

How to prepare it

Crush or finely chop — wait 10 minutes before heating to maximize allicin formation. Gentle cooking in olive oil preserves active compounds. Raw garlic is the most potent.

Recommended dosage

Daily, as a staple of basic cooking.

How to prepare it

Crushed cloves gently sautéed in olive oil for 2 minutes. Raw grated garlic in dressings. Black (fermented) garlic is milder and even more concentrated in S-allylcysteine.
